Fallen Angels Assumed Physical Bodies

Fallen Angels Assumed Physical Bodies

When Giants Were Upon the Earth

The Nephilim: The Assumption of Physical Bodies by Fallen Angels, and the Consequences that Resulted.

That the sons of God saw the daughters of men that they were fair; and they took them wives of all that they chose. And Jehovah said, My Spirit shall not abide in man forever, for that he also is flesh: yet shall his days be a hundred and twenty years.

The Nephilim were in the earth in those days, and also after that, when the sons of God came in unto the daughters of men, and they bear children to them: the same were the mighty men that were of old, the men of renown.

Some of the fallen angels assumed actual physical bodies and produced offspring through intercourse with daughters of men. The angels that did so, and their offspring, were both called Nephilim.

For in the resurrection they neither marry,
nor are given in marriage,
but are as angels in heaven.

And angels that kept not their own principality, but left their proper habitation, he hath kept in everlasting bonds under darkness unto the judgment of the great day.

For if God spared not angels when they sinned, but cast them down to Tartarus, and committed them to pits of darkness, to be reserved unto judgment.

This direct intercourse with the human race by angels was not only forbidden by God but is also contrary to angelic nature. The result was a markedly increased corruption of the already fallen race of man, with the offspring of this illicit union having extraordinary powers and stature.

This situation incurred the immediate and sweeping judgment of the earth by the Flood and the imprisonment of these angels.

The irretrievably corrupted human race (Noah and company excepted) was destroyed by the Flood and the offending angels were confined in Tartarus, the lowest level of Hades; but even these actions did not resolve the problem posed by the offspring of this union.

And all flesh died that moved upon the earth, both birds, and cattle, and beasts, and every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth, and every man: all in whose nostrils was the breath of the spirit of life, of all that was on the dry land, died. And every living thing was destroyed that was upon the face of the ground, both man, and cattle, and creeping things, and birds of the heavens; and they were destroyed from the earth: and Noah only was left, and they that were with him in the ark.

And they brought forth an evil report of the land, which they had spied out unto the children of Israel saying, The land, through which we have gone to spy it out, is a land that eateth up the inhabitants thereof; and all the people that we saw in it are men of great stature. And there we saw the Nephilim, the sons of Anak, who come of the Nephilim: and we were in our own sight as grasshoppers, and so we were in their sight.

Possibly since their lineage was a totally unnatural mixture in violation of His laws, God did not consider these offspring a part of his physical creation. Due to their extraordinary powers, some, if not all, of these offspring may have survived the Flood.

Anak was one of these postdiluvian offspring. It is also apparent that some instances of assumption of physical bodies by the fallen angels may have occurred after the flood.

Since the spread of these offspring would corrupt the descendants of Noah, God was always unrelenting in His requirement that men utterly destroy all the offspring of these beings.

Hear, O Israel: thou art to pass over the Jordan this day, to go in to dispossess nations greater and mightier than thyself, cities great and fortified up to heaven, a people great and tall, the sons of the Anakim, whom thou knowest, and of whom thou hast heard say, Who can stand before the sons of Anak?

As we see here, these offspring were not only called Nephilim but were also known as Anakim. What other names were they known by?

And in the fourteenth year came Chedorlaomer, and the kings that were with him, and smote the Rephaim in Ashteroth‑karnaim, and the Zuzim in Ham, and the Emim in Shavaeh‑kiriathaim, and the Horites in their Mount Seir, unto El‑paran, which is by the wilderness.

And Jehovah said unto me, Vex not Moab, neither contend with them in battle; for I will not give thee of his land for a possession; because I have given Ar unto the children of Lot for a possession. (The Emim dwelt therein aforetime, a people great, and many, and tall, as the Anakim:) these also are accounted Rephaim, as the Anakim; but the Moabites call them Emim

The Horites also dwelt in Seir aforetime, but the children of Esau succeeded them; and they destroyed them from before them, and dwelt in their stead; … and when thou comest nigh over against the children of Ammon, vex them not, or contend with them; for I will not give thee of the land of the children of Ammon for a possession; because I have given it unto the children of Lot for a possession.

(That also is accounted a land of RephaimRephaim dwelt therein aforetime; but the Ammonites call them Zamzummin, a people great, and many, and tall, as the Anakimbut Jehovah destroyed them before them; and they succeeded them, and dwelt in their stead; as he did for the children of Esau, that dwelt in Seir, when he destroyed the Horites from before them; and they succeeded them, and dwelt in their stead even unto this day: and the Avvim that dwelt in villages as far as Gaza, the Caphtorim, that came forth out of Caphtor, destroyed them, and dwelt in their stead.)

These offspring were called by the following names: NephilimAnakimZuzimZamzumminEmimAvvimHorites and RephaimThere were different branches of the offspring of Anak and probably of other descendants of the Nephilim, except for the two different names used to describe the same beings by Ammonites and Moabites

Let us now trace their extinction and learn what we may in so doing.

And they gave them Kiriath‑arba
which Arba was the father of Anak

Probably Arba was one of the fallen angels or at the least the direct offspring of one.
Bear in mind that men are counted in the eyes of God as representing both the man and woman in a marriage relationship. Although marriage itself would not be applicable to the relationship of these beings, this principle could explain a lack of mention of any female offspring. It is equally possible that their offspring where always male, requiring continued intercourse with the human race.

Although the original Nephilim apparently appeared no different outwardly from other men, their offspring were radically different in stature. All indications are that they retained this distinctiveness regardless of further mixing. Their existence, therefore, would always be a potential threat to the pure lineage of Christ from Adam, thus the reason for God's decree for their extinction.

And Caleb drove out thence the three sons of Anak
Sheshai, and Ahiman, and Talmai, the children of Anak.

And Judah went against the Canaanites that dwelt in Hebron
(now the name of Hebron beforetime was Kiriath‑arba):
and they smote Sheshai, and Ahiman, and Talmai.

And Joshua came at that time, and cut off the Anakim from the hill‑country, from Hebron, from Debir, from Anab, and from all the hill-country of Judah, and from all the hill‑country of IsraelJoshua utterly destroyed them with their cities. There was none of the Anakim left in the land of the children of Israel: only in Gaza, in Gath, and in Ashdod, did some remain.

Anak had at least three sons: SheshaiAhiman, and Talmai. Joshua and company wiped them out, but there were still remnants of their offspring left in three places, one of which was Gath.

And there went out a champion out of the camp of the Philistines
named Goliath, of Gath, whose height was six cubits and a span.

Now you know why Goliath was such a bad guy physically and otherwise. How appropriate that David, the chosen one of God, should slay him. This is a foreshadowing of the future (at that time) time when Christ (one of whose titles is the son of David, since He was descended from David) came in the form of a humble man to destroy Satan, whose nature is the same as that of the fallen angel who was Goliath's ancestor, by His death on the cross.

And Ishbi-benob, who was of the sons of the giant, the weight of whose spear was three hundred shekels of brass in weight, he being girded with a new sword, thought to have slain David. But Abishai the son of Zeruiah succored him, and smote the Philistine, and killed him. ... And it came to pass after this, that there was again war with the Philistines at Gob: then Sibbecai the Hushathite slew Saph, who was of the sons of the giant. And there was again war with the Philistines at Gob; and Elhanan the son of Jaare‑oregim the Bethlehemite slew the brother of Goliath the Gittite, the staff of whose spear was like a weaver's beam.

And it came to pass after that there arose war at Gezer with the Philistines: then Sibbecai the Hushathite slew Sippai, of the sons of the giant; and they were subdued. And there was again war with the Philistines; and Elhanan the son of Jair slew Lahmi the brother of Goliath the Hittite, the staff of whose spear was like a weaver's beam. And there was again war at Gath, where there was a man of great stature, whose fingers and toes were four and twenty, six on each hand and six on each foot; and he also was born unto the giant. And when he defied Israel, Jonathan the son of Shimea David's brother slew him. These were born unto the giant in Gath; and they fell by the hand of David, and by the hand of his servants.

And there was again war at Gath, where was a man of great stature, that had on every hand six fingers, and on every foot six toes, four and twenty in number; and he also was born to a giant  …These four were born to the giant in Gath; they fell by the hand of David, and by the hands of his servants

Goliath had four brothers: Ishbi‑benobSaph (or Sippai), Lahmi, and a nameless one with six fingers on each hand and six toes on each foot: All five of them were giants and descendants of the Nephilim, which gave them their extraordinary size and strength. The abnormality of the fingers and toes of the one is further evidence of the genetic corruption caused by the union of some of the daughters of men with these fallen angels in human form. Such an oddity occasionally ours today, as the result of a genetic mutation.

(For only Og king of Bashan remained of the remnant of the Rephaimbehold, his bedstead was a bedstead of iron; is it not in Rabbah of the children of Ammon? nine cubits was the length thereof, and four cubits the breadth of it, after the cubit of a man.)

So Jehovah our God delivered into our hand Og also, the king of Bashan, and all his people: and we smote him until none was left to him remaining.

Eventually, this line of beings was exterminated, as these verses affirm.
